This Little Pig's Mum & What To Cook This Mother's Day
This Little Pigs Mum:
As Mother's Day approaches, This Little Pig decided to lay down its whisk and wooden spoon for a week to celebrate this fines swine’s Mum in the blog. This Little Pig’s Mum is a bit of a gem. She’s kind, generous, warm, funny and yes folks, she’s a little bit weird. This Little Pig is going to shower its Mum, Bron, with a serious amount of food on Mother’s Day. Therefore to skip the emotion and see some great Mother's Day food ideas, scroll to the bottom of this post. Otherwise, read on dear piglets, to hear of the weird and wonderful things about This Little Pig’s Mum.
Poached Egg Incident
One time, This Little Pig was over at Brons house and pulled open a drawer to get out a bowl. Sitting in the top bowl of the pile, in the crockery drawer…. was a poached egg. That’s right folks, a poached egg. To this day we still can’t quite work out why it was there. Bron has no recollection.
Moisturing effects of Olive Oil
When an unfortunate spillage of litres of organic olive occurred in the test kitchen, Bron whipped off her top and started lathering her skin with the olive oil yelling, “whip off your clothes piglets and put it on your skin, it’s a wonderful moisturizer!”
Robot Language
On the topic of olive oil, she also likes to wheel the giant drum of olive oil out of the pantry whilst talking in a robot voice; “I am a dialect.” Who even knows what this means. Another time in the LPHQ kitchen on a particularly long day of packing Bron decided that the working piglets were like a big machine. She then proceeded to force all the piglets to act as though they were small robots and a part of a big machine, whilst she yelled, “I am a robot.”
Confidence is Key
On the golf course she can often be heard to gently encourage herself with a “oh great shot Bronno” or “Wow go Bron!”
Start the car!
She has been known to drive away from school as soon as the car doors were shut but BEFORE the school bags were taken out of the boot.
Patience only a mother could possess.
Bron encouraged cooking from a young age in her children and was rewarded one day when This Little Pig and a friend decided that they would make bright green toffee in Brons brand new oven. Unfortunately, this fine swine at the age of 10 was not the culinary genius it is now and after attempting to pull the unset toffee out of the oven too early, it slipped with the tray and poured bright green syrup all through Brons brand new hot oven. You’re welcome mum.
Now whilst these stories might highlight Mums true weirdness, there is also her warmth, caring and kindness. Every day These Little Pigs would return from school to have freshly baked items by Bron (be it bread- straight out of the oven, a roast chicken or perhaps some soup) for afternoon tea. There was the night Bron sat up with This Little Pig all night when it had a broken trotter and couldn’t get to sleep. These piglets even now remember the (pretend) excitement when her piglets thought that the best present for mother’s day was to wrap up items Mum already owned and re-gift them to her (“oh wow, it’s my old vase, you really shouldn’t have kids..”)
So in a nutshell there is no way to encompass all that This Little Pig's Mum is and does for these fine swines, but This Little Pig just wants to re-iterate on a day where we celebrate the important ladies in our life that Mum..we love you and you helped make us the piglets we are today. So thank you from the bottom of our porcine hearts. X Oink.
What This Little Pig could cook Mum this mother’s day (Mums don’t read this part or it won’t be a surprise!):
Is there anything more divine for breakfast than cardamom & nutmeg French toast with caramelized fig, strawberry and rosemary? No we didn’t think so either.
Now this Spanish Baked Eggs dish is an absolutely favourite of This Little Pigs. It’s soooo quick and easy to put together. It looks like you put in heaps of effort and it is incredibly warm and comforting.
If you are off for a picnic for Mother's Day then this Fruit & Chocolate Dip is a great option for you to enjoy in the sunshine. It’s light, fresh and it is super easy to whip up before heading out with ya mum.
Nothing says I love you like bacon. Try this Gourmet Bacon & Egg Sandwich with smokey BBQ relish that you can make up the day before in preparation. It really does create joy and light in ones life.
This Little Pig doesn’t like sharing its Homemade Sausage Rolls with anyone but perhaps an exception can be made on Mother's Day.. maybe.
Feeling like being a light and healthy piglet with mum? Well then step on over to Homemade Granola (did that rhyme?). It’s crunchy, filling and oh so divine.
Scones with Jam & Cream. Surely these are an institution for mother’s day? Well if not lets make it one, these are absolutely delightful. Take some to your granny too whilst your at it!
